With daffodils in bloom and bird song in the air, it can only mean one thing: Guildford Shakespeare Company’s Spring Season is just around the corner – and this year, it brings a double celebration.
In April, GSC will launch its 15th annual Spring Season celebrating the company’s 20th anniversary and Shakespeare’s birthday. Events will include a vibrant mix theatrical performance and immersion, breathing new life and imagination into Shakespeare’s theatrical brilliance.
The season opens April 10-11 with a 10th anniversary performance of “An Anatomy of (T)Errors” by GSC’s Young Company.
Devised by the company’s 13–18-year-old members and written by Theo-Toksvig Stewart, the production draws inspiration from three of the main company’s 2025 shows – Frankenstein, The Comedy of Errors and Pride & Prejudice – telling a cautionary tale that questions who might bear the cost when science goes too far.

Matt Pinches expresses his excitement for the company’s new generation of performers, “As ever the Young Company show is always a fascinating delight to see what these inspiring young theatre makers come up with.”

Celebrations continue on the April 19 with the return of the much-loved Shakespeare Walks.
This immersive experience transports participants back to 1500s, combining live Shakespearean performances with a guided journey through Guildford’s heritage sites. Devised and directed by GSC co-founder Matt Pinches, the 60 minute walks will depart every 15 minutes, each taking a different route through town.
Celebrations will culminate on Shakespeare’s Birthday – April 23 – with a special anniversary event, What’s Past Is Prologue: An Evening with GSC’s Co-Founders.
Hosted by radio legend Peter Gordon, founders Sarah Gobran and Matt Pinches will reminisce on 20 years of award-winning theatre making. From discovering real skulls during Hamlet and navigating chainsaw interruptions in The Tempest and Macbeth’s curse, to playing in New York, pioneering outreach projects and staging theatre on planes, trains, and automobiles. Fittingly, every ticket includes a slice of cake!

Reflecting on the milestone, Matt Pinches said; “To be making theatre for 20 years is an honour, and I’m really looking forward, with Sarah, to look back and share the incredible, and sometimes quite unbelievable, journey we’ve been on since 2006.”

And then there were seven. (See article: "Lib Dems Remain Puzzled By Leader’s Decision to Sack Executive Member")
