Guildford-born children’s author Michaela Kelly is the only Briton among just four out of 2,000 submissions to be shortlisted in the international Ethicool book competition, and we can help her.
To win, she needs our votes for the prize which is publishing her book, Rabbit Holds the Moon, working with the professional children’s illustrator, Francisco Fonesca.
Michaela said: “My love of books started very young so I’ve always known that publishing a story book would be a life goal. I dream of seeing a book I’ve written on a shelf in a bookshop.”
Rabbit Holds the Moon, is about sharing, she said. “I try to live my life in as green and ethical a way as possible and I believe instilling the importance of sharing with our children and each other is crucial. The planet is not ours, just like the moon; we all share it.”
Michaela went to Rydes Hill and St Peters schools. She trained as a nurse at Kings College Hospital in London then worked as a community nurse in Haslemere. Her children kept her busy for the next few years then she started writing.
She ran a baby and toddler singing group in Wood Street Village for 15 years. “That’s where the magic of story-telling really came alive.”
Michaela said: ” It is a great honour to have been chosen in the shortlist. I would love if people would vote for my entry.”
