The Guildford Dragon NEWS Joins IMPRESS

The Guildford Dragon NEWS has joined the press regulator IMPRESS.

IMPRESS says its role is to:

⁃ Maintain a progressive Standards Code and assess any breaches of this code by our members.
⁃ Provide an arbitration scheme which is free to all parties and protects publishers against the risk of court costs and exemplary damages.
⁃ Support the development of news publishers, through partnerships and collaboration.
⁃ Award a “Trust in Journalism” mark to publishers that meet our standards for membership.

Guildford Dragon editor, Martin Giles, said: “We have been in negotiation with IMPRESS for some months. They are geared to include membership by smaller online publications, such as ours, and we have been impressed with their helpfulness and efficiency.

“We are confident we have maintained high editorial standards since we were established in March 2012 and have received very few complaints but we have, occasionally, had to deal with vexatious threats of legal action and it will be good to be a member of a recognised regulator to which complaints can be referred, if necessary.

“Our membership of the Independent Community News Network has already proven to be very useful and we expect our new membership of IMPRESS to be equally beneficial.”

I wonder if all those “vexatious threats” were perhaps from borough councillors, or ex-councillors?
