Update December 8
A beech tree has also come down across Sandy Lane between Portsmouth Road and the entrance to Surrey Police HQ.
5pm Update
With the tree removed damage to the roof opposite has been revealed.
But it’s an ill wind… Alder logs anyone?
12pm The South East of England might not have suffered the brunt of Storm Darragh this morning but high winds have caused some damage.
Pedestrians had to pass under a fallen tree in the passage by the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre this morning but tree surgeons were already on hand to clear the way.
The centre of the storm is now clearing into the North Sea, but meteorologists say that doesn’t mean conditions will improve a great deal any time soon.
Wind speeds are expected to strengthen in the eastern parts of England as the day goes on. Locally winds of over 50mph are expected with more rain.
South Western Railway is warning of disruption to rail services including services from Guildford to Haslemere.
Services between London Waterloo, Salisbury and Exeter St David’s will only run between Basingstoke, Salisbury and Exeter St David’s for South Western Railway passengers.
As experienced in previous storms high winds could cause damage to buildings, falling trees and possibly for power cuts. Flying debris in strong winds could also be a danger.
