In a netminding dual, Taz Burman edged out Ben Bowns to allow an early third period Josh Waller goal to lift Flames to a 1-0 shutout win over the visiting Cardiff Devils, Elite league leaders.
Bowns and Burman shared an even split of 16 shots across a scoreless opening frame then each retaining the clean sheet through the second with Bowns turning away 12 more while Burman viewed an additional nine his way.
The winning goal came just under five minutes into the third off the stick of former Devil Josh Waller to give Flames a lead while both netminders held their opponents off the sheet the rest of the way.
Burman finished his shutout with 24 saves while Bowns had just the single blemish on 25 shots.
“It was a solid game from the goalie out,” explained coach Paul Dixon, “and great to finally pick up a win this season against Cardiff. Taz made some great saves, including some big ones early in the first to keep us level and that gave us a chance to eventually get the points.”
