Co-producers Guildford Fringe Theatre Company and LynchPin Productions present You Give Me Fever, the Phaedra Cabare, a new play in a cabaret-style by local playwright Jack Lynch, at the Back Room of the Star Inn in Quarry Street, from Tuesday to Saturday, May 23 to 27.
It is filled with songs including Mad About the Boy, You’re Getting to be a Habit with Me and Fever which were made famous by legendary jazz divas such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee.
With the help of live music, the play creates a sultry tapestry of love’s eternal struggle with passion, addiction, choice and fate. Phaedra is one of the classic tragic heroines of Greek theatre, but the story has never been told like this before – complete with a twist at the end.
Playwright Jack Lynch is a co-founder of LynchPin Productions Theatre Company.
Pippa Winslow will be appearing as Fey, the heroine of the story. Her last solo cabaret sold out during its run at Yvonne Arnaud’s Mill Studio and garnered five star reviews.
James Shannon, jazz-guitarist, is a recent graduate from the ACM in Guildford. He specialises in fingerstyle guitar arrangements, boasting a large repertoire of jazz and popular standards and also enjoys working alongside singers, predominantly in a jazz setting.
‘We are thrilled to be working with LynchPin on this production after seeing an early showing of it last year in Godalming, says Nick Wyschna, artistic director of Guildford Fringe.
Pippa’s storytelling is beautiful and incredibly engaging. Mix that with an intimate venue like The Back Room and you are set for the perfect theatrical experience.
You Give Me Fever, the Phaedra Cabaret plays at The Star Inn, Quarry Street, GU1 3TY at 8pm each evening. Tickets are £14 (£12 concessions) and can be purchased at www.GuildfordFringe.com or by calling 0333 666 3366.
