Guildford’s The School Musicals Company has scooped a prestigious national award at this year’s Music Teacher Awards For Excellence in London’s Park Lane.

They won the top spot in the Outstanding Musical Theatre/Drama category for their innovative range of school musicals, nativities and songbooks aimed at primary schools and Key Stage 3. The company, launched in January 2017, was runner-up in that category last year.

“With music education in schools very much in the spotlight, we want to give children, teachers and youth-theatre leaders the most enjoyable, meaningful and stress-free experience that we possibly can,” said creative director Matthew Crossey. “Everything we create comes from that starting point and it is wonderful to hear that we are fulfilling that promise”

Mr Crossey and Tom Kirkham launched the company and already more than 2,000 schools and drama groups have performed its shows. The company has nine musicals available, alongside eight nativities, an assembly songbook and a carol service.

With each one especially conceived and published to ensure both specialist and non-specialist teachers alike have everything they need to deliver a brilliant school show, the company is making waves in the world of musical theatre within schools and drama groups.
