Guildford Photographer Commended at Prestigious International Competition

Amateur photographer and Guildford Photographic Society member Veronica Barrett FRPS has been Highly Commended in the Macro Art Photo Project section of the International Garden Photographer of the Year competition.

Veronica’s image ‘Declining Gracefully’ is a beautifully atmospheric portrait of sweet peas just past their best.

Said Veronica: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a Highly Commended in the Macro Art section of the prestigious International Garden Photographer competition. I always love looking at the entries in the winners’ galleries every year, several of whom are by my favourite flower photographers, and it is an honour be up there with them this year. It is a very inspiring competition.”

The International Garden Photographer of the Year is the world’s premier competition and exhibition specialising in garden, plant, flower and botanical photography. Run in association with the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, it attracts more than 20,000 entries from across the globe.

Veronica is a landscape and nature photographer based in Guildford, Surrey, who enjoys photographing subjects which elicit an emotional response from her, particularly the natural world.

In her photography, she is very drawn to colour and shapes and this enables her to see many ‘pictures’ within her surroundings. These may be of ice, beach patterns, reflections, or even fantasy landscapes in shells, corrugated iron and paint drips. In 2011 Veronica gained a Royal Photographic Society Fellowship (FRPS) for a panel of fantasy landscapes envisioned in the patterns on mussel shells.
