Guildford Spectrum is celebrating the opening of its refurbished gym following a £250,000 refit.Spectrum logo

The gym doors will open to welcome early birds at 6.30am on Monday, December 21.

A celebration launch will take place at 6.30pm that evening. The launch is free to everyone and there will be a membership offer available on the night. Non-members must download a guest pass from guildfordspectrum.co.uk before attending.

The new gym will be opened by two very special members. The honour to cut the ribbon goes to George Scorer – the most attended member in 2015 – and Maurice Taylor – who survived a cardiac arrest in the gym.

Group and one-to-one inductions on the new fitness equipment will take place throughout the evening.

The upgrade has been extensive and includes interactive cardio vascular equipment,  a new range of versatile functional fitness equipment, additional squat racks, Battling Ropes and the Surge water-filled hand held canister.

The gym also boasts an improved layout. Extra stretch and functional training areas have been added in both the upper and lower gym. These areas have also been redecorated and extra mirrors added.

New flooring is in place. This includes a rubber surface in the functional training zone in the lower gym.

Wi Fi is now available throughout the gym.

“Our new gym design and equipment has been largely in response to customer feedback. People will find plenty to celebrate in the new gym,” said Steve May, Freedom Leisure’s area manager.

He added “We have combined the best new technology with the latest equipment. The new gym will enable our members to enhance, improve and update their workouts both individually and under the guidance of instructors.”

Cllr Matt Furniss, lead councillor for infrastructure and environment, said: “The new gym at Spectrum offers a chance for users to work out with the support of cutting edge technology. Our investment ensures that the Spectrum is a great site to visit, offering a great range of fitness and leisure activities for all.”

Freedom Leisure operates Spectrum on behalf of Guildford Borough Council.
