In week 12 of the Guildford Table Tennis League Division One a Godalming D side with two players got a very credible 6-4 victory over fellow strugglers Abinger A.
Brian Mitchell, with three and Carol Day two, plus the doubles took the honours.
A rampant Andy Clegg of College Hill gave a faultless display in demolishing Woking B in a middle of the table clash. It ended 7-3 to the Haslemere club.
In Division Two, College Hill C put a considerable dent in Ash B’s chances with an 8-2 success.
Paul Tanton was supreme and he was ably backed up by Alan Hudson and Mike Caudry with two each.
James Wyncoll got a surprising duck but Andy Barnard managed a couple.
’The Hill’ won four of the five setters on view so the score line was distorted somewhat.
In a topsy turvy world last week’s hero Aftermath’s Dave Wilson, three against Bramley A, lost all three against Godalming G.
However, thanks to three from Paolo Sala and two from Frank Roberts, Aftermath still came out on top, 6-4.
There were three 5-0 score lines in round six of the Guildford Junior League, meaning that the top three teams stretched their lead further.
Merrow Hawks sit atop the table with 25 points after a commanding win over the Looters.
Max Swindells and Jai Dhillon both won their matches 3-0 against Quentin Pritchard and Sasha Dow.
Merrow Demons, represented by Dan Godsill and Jack Liu, were equally convincing with their win over VM.
Vlad Cretu provided most resistance against Dan but ultimately lost 3-2.
The two Merrow teams meet in their final match of the season – a match that will decide who wins the title!
The Thunderbolts stayed in touch with the Merrow teams with a 5-0 win of their own against EJJ.
The Kepa brothers, Anton and Kyle, impressed once more. Only Anton dropped an end – against Joss Beedie in a 3-1 win.
The ‘Bolts’ are in with a shout of second place if results go their way in the final round of the season next week.
