Join Second World War historian and Times journalist Ben Macintyre for an illustrated talk on the secrets of the D-Day spies at Waterstones Guildford on Wednesday, September 12, at 7pm.

Ben Macintyre, the bestselling author of Agent Zigzag and Operation Mincemeat, will be celebrating the paperback release of Double Cross (Bloomsbury, £7.99) with a visit to Guildford to discuss his research into the little-known history of the D-Day spies.

Ben has made his name in history writing uncovering the dangerous, and often ambiguous, exploits of the people who risked their lives as double agents and Double Cross continues this with the extraordinary tale of the five men and women that made up one of the unlikeliest military units in history.

The book has gained critical acclaim from the press and fellow authors alike with history author Anthony Beevor calling it “utterly gripping” and the Sunday Telegraph billing Macintyre as “a first-class narrative historian”.

Jessica Sage, events co-ordinator at Waterstones Guildford, said: Ben’s writing is as compelling as any novel I have read and bears out the saying that truth is stranger than fiction. We can’t wait to hear about the research that went into writing Double Cross and get a glimpse of some of his sources.”

Tickets are £3 each and are available by visiting or calling Waterstones Guildford on 01483 536366. Anyone who is unable to attend the event but would like a signed copy of any of Ben’s books can arrange this by contacting the bookshop.
