It’s every parent’s worst nightmare when their child comes home hurt, attacked by another child. What would you do? Call the police or have a chat with the other parents? That would be the mature, adult way to deal with it. Or maybe not……!
The Herald Players, one of Guildford’s best known amateur theatre companies, are putting on the award-winning play The God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza from Tuesday to Friday, November 19 to 22, at 8pm, at the Star Inn, Quarry Street, Guildford.
Short and savagely funny, this is a comedy of manners without the manners. Director Gayle Lafone said: “I’m so thrilled to have the chance to put on this brilliant play in Guildford. It’s ideally suited to the intimate atmosphere of the Backroom at the Star Inn. With the opportunity to seat the audience close to the actors, they will feel that they are in the living room with the four performers.”
This play consolidates the direction that The Herald Players have taken over the past two years – short, small cast plays in venues which complement the production. The audience have the opportunity to make the show just part of their evening in Guildford. As the play runs for around 75 minutes, they may have time to enjoy a relaxed dinner or drinks with friends as well.
The Herald Players, who have performed in Guildford over five decades, are one of more than 80 groups across the UK recently awarded a place in the RSC’s Open Stages project.
The UK’s biggest amateur theatre scheme gives training, director mentoring and feedback from professional theatre practitioners. The Herald Players will receive support for their next Bard in the Bar production which features scenes from Shakespeare and is scheduled for Spring 2014.
Tickets £10 in advance available from Guildford Tourist Information Centre, 155 High Street GU1 3AJ Tel: 01483 444334 or www.visitguildford.com or cash at the door.
