Transforming Surrey’s Streets: Small Changes, Big Impact

Surrey’s streets and public spaces are at the heart of our communities, and we’re working hard to ensure they are safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone. Over the past few months, our teams have been busy delivering a series of small but impactful improvements that are already making a noticeable difference for residents.

Here’s what’s been achieved in January:

  • 189 roads attended for maintenance and improvements.
  • 305km of roadside hedges cut back, enhancing visibility and tidiness.
  • 21.8km of weeds and overgrown vegetation removed, creating cleaner, more inviting spaces.
  • 139 drain channels cleaned to help prevent flooding and keep roads safer.
  • 750 signs and 76 railings and bollards cleaned to improve the look and feel of our streets.
  • 1,500 meters of footway edging tidied to make walking safer and more enjoyable for pedestrians.

These small improvements are already making a significant impact, improving the safety, appearance, and accessibility of our roads and public spaces. While each project may seem small on its own, when combined, they are transforming our streets and public spaces and making a real difference to our communities across Surrey.

Residents have noticed the cleaner, tidier streets and the safer, more accessible pathways. From clearing overgrown vegetation to ensuring signs and railings are spotless, each effort contributes to a better environment for everyone to enjoy.

Every improvement, no matter how small, helps make Surrey a better place to live, work, and travel. Please continue to report Highway issues online – https://tellus.surreycc.gov.uk/
