It’s Walk to School Week!

May marks the beginning of Walk to School Week, and there’s no better way to celebrate walking than by taking part in Surrey’s flagship walking training programme, Feet First.

Marden Lodge Primary School in Caterham did just that, thanks to funding from a local councillor, who supported their participation in Feet First: Walking Training.

A Year 3 teacher at Marden Lodge Primary said – “Year 3 took part in the Feet First walking training today and absolutely loved it. They came back full of confidence, proudly chanting the walking training phrases that they’ll remember for years to come. The session was fun, interactive, and brilliantly led. The staff were organised, engaging and true role models of what road and crossing safety looks like.”

Feet First is delivered to Year 3 pupils across Surrey, teaching them vital road safety skills to ensure they feel safe and confident to walk more.

The programme is committed to meeting Surrey’s Vison Zero strategy of ‘No One Left Behind’ by ensuring as many Year 3 pupils have access to training.

Thanks to ongoing support from councillors and funding support from Cllr Matt Furniss, Cabinet member for Highways Transport & Economic Growth, who continues to ensure that all children eligible for ‘Free School Meals’ can access Feet First and Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training free of charge.
