The Guildford Institute has launched its brochure for the autumn term.

Guildford Institute logoIt is jam-packed with over 60 courses, workshops and talks, and has an exciting programme on offer to the local community and beyond.

This term, activities will be available online, in-person and in hybrid formats (running online and in-person simultaneously), in order to give greater flexibility to attendees.

Coinciding with Black History Month in October, it has opted for a focus titled Celebrating Black History.

Events will offer the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the richness of Britain’s culture through a range of topics in art history, literature and local history.

As part of this, the Guildford Institute will host its first special event in 18 months, on October 18, with curator and heritage consultant S. I. Martin, who will explore Surrey’s black history.

There will be a number of evening courses on offer to enable more people to get involved in the institute’s programme of activities.

Learn about the life and work of Chris Ofili, unwind with yoga for every ‘body’ , or learn a language with Spanish for beginners.

Each term the institute supports and promotes the work of local artists through its brochure front cover. This term’s cover is by Surrey-based artist Yeside Linney.

Largely self-taught, she is predominately a landscape painter and draws much of her inspiration from her local landscape, literature and travels.

Institute manager Amy Rice said: “In putting our autumn programme together, we have tried to be as flexible as possible, offering the chance to participate in our sessions in whichever way is most comfortable for you.

“Whether you would prefer to join from the comfort of your own home, or to socialise with likeminded people in our beautiful Grade II listed building, daytime or evening, we hope there is something for everyone within our programme.”
