Big improvements are being made to the leisure pool at Guildford Spectrum centre to the tune of £217,000.
The work sees a range of new low- and high-level interactive water features within the children’s section of the leisure pool. These are designed to provide visual stimulation, aid sensory development and build water confidence through play.
Freedom Leisure, which operates Guildford Spectrum in partnership with Guildford Borough Council, says the work will be completed by December 15.
The existing ‘sandy creek’ slide will be replaced with a brand new mini-flume. The ‘tree house’ will be removed and a lighthouse added in its place – complete with a light beacon – to complement the shipwreck theme.
The lighthouse will be connected with and act as a signal for the wave machine. A small slide will curl around the base of the lighthouse for little ones to enjoy.
A small section of the leisure pool is currently unavailable for use while the work take place. Guildford Spectrum is offering reduced rate entry during this period. The 25m teaching and diving pools will operate as usual.
Freedom Leisure area manager Steve May said: “We’re thrilled to be embarking on these investment works which will incorporate the latest interactive features into the leisure pool and enhance Guildford Spectrum’s already impressive offering. We’re hoping the investment will encourage more families in Guildford to get active and enjoy the water together.”
Cllr Terence Patrick, Guildford Borough Council’s lead councillor for the rural economy, said: “I welcome this improvement to the facilities offered for the very young users of the leisure pool. It’s important these young customers have a positive experience of water play, both for their enjoyment and also to improve their water confidence as they learn to swim and enjoy all the pools have to offer.”
