To celebrate Guildford’s fantastic range and quality of independent shops, The Guildford Dragon NEWS will be running a regular feature called Indie of the Month. We will be collaborating with Experience Guildford, who publish its own ‘Indie Spot of the Month’, and put the focus on the same independent retailer.
This month’s is Amor Amora, the Epicurean café.
Located just up from the George Abbot statue at the top of the High Street, it is a lovely little café with a restaurant feel.
It prides itself on “serving organic or locally-sourced products, from artisan suppliers that share our same commitment to quality and excellence”.
I spoke to Todd Bridge who introduced himself as the “chief cook and bottle washer” as well as the manager of this very attractive establishment.
It has been open for four years now and Todd was very proud to tell me how apt the Epicurean label was to the cafe.
Todd said: “Our customers really like what we do here, the variety and the freshness. Our menu is seasonally related, changed every day and we make all of our own cakes on the premises.”
Todd was enthusiastic about the potential for the business. “We have a well established customer base. Our challenge will be to make the most of the great things we offer and expand to opening the café in the evening.”
It has recently refurbished the upstairs dining area including the outside which is now ready for parties and functions.
Like all of our independents, Amor Amora adds hugely to the interest and diversity of shops in the town.
But it also provides employment in the town with four full-time and four part-time staff running all that is needed for the busy café.
First and foremost though, it is a lovely place to drop in with a friend for a meal and a glass of wine or just coffee and cake.
The Amor Amora cafe is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and tea up to 6pm each day and 8pm on Saturday. You can call on 01483 504932.
