Castle Green Bowling Club

Brian West has been presented with the highest award a bowler can get for his 30 years of loyal membership at Castle Green.

Brian West is presented with his award for being a member of Castle Green Bolwing Club for 30 years.

The surprise on his face was amazing when the president of Surrey Bowling Club, Derek Harvey,  presented Brian with his certificate and flashers for his blazer.

The Mayor of Guildford, Nigel Manning and the Mayoress, Marsha Moseley, were present and presented winning medals that were won by the “Westies”.

Monies raised from the day will go to the Guildford Challenges.

Merrow Village Bowls Club

By David Raison

On Saturday, May 27, Merrow welcomed Burpham to their green. Four rinks of triples were played in mostly sunny conditions.

Merrow vreses Burpham.

There was a keen sense of anticipation on the part of Merrow, who were looking forward to a competitive fixture. The result saw Merrow win on all four rinks, beating Burpham by a grand total of 26 points, a result that far outweighed our expectations.

Teas were provided by Joan Mead, with everyone commenting on her tasty home-made cake, which was enjoyed sitting in the sunshine.

Merrow’s next fixture with Burpham is on August 26 at their ground, when we hope for another successful day.

Merrow Bowls Club is holding a free open day on Sunday, July 2.
