Report by Ian Mackrell

Burpham top both the West Surrey League (WSL) Division 2 and the Sapphire Leagues.

On Saturday, August 11, the Burpham WSL team continued their extraordinary run with a convincing home win over Leatherhead by 5 points to 0.

“Aren’t I a happy club captain”. Alan Mogg thanking his WSL and Sapphire teams for their outstanding performance this season – after the Leatherhead match on Saturday, August 11.

The actual score was 83 shots to 36. Captain Alan Mogg, glowed with pride, as he said: “I changed our selection policy for this season, and the results prove my point! Well done to both the WSL players and the Sapphire players.”

The following day we travelled with five triples to Esher for a friendly match, and our winning run continued. Esher were defeated by 94 shots to 37.

David Hart at West End on Aug 8, with his wife, Carolyn, in the background.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday August 8, we visited  West End for a rearranged match in the Knaphill Triples, and ran out winners by 3-0 points, and a convincing shot difference.

The following day, we again travelled away, this time to Mytchett, for a scheduled Knaphill Triples match. It went down to the wire, so to speak – infact to the 216th bowl of the match, the very final bowl. Mytchett snatching victory on that last shot. Final score was a 1-3 point defeat.

This Saturday, August 18 we have an all day event – the Squibb Salver – a two wood, singles competition. We have a huge entry list.

Barry Macbeth, club president and competitions secretary, and his wife Linda, will once again be demonstrating their not inconsiderable talents in ensuring this, like all other competitions this season at Burpham, is a huge success.
