An update of latest volunteer roles being promoted by Voluntary Action South West Surrey.

Trustees position for Brief Lives-Remembered

Brief Lives-Remembered was established in 2004 by Paula Jackson. The Guildford-based charity’s core aim is to support families when a baby or child dies however recently or long ago their loss was.

It also specialises in tracing the resting place of babies who were stillborn or born and died many years ago. To date, it has been successful in tracing the resting place of more than 800 babies and supporting their families.

Paula said: “We are currently looking for two new trustees to work with the our charity and assist us to move forward into the future.

“We are looking for two people with a passion and commitment for ensuring high-quality services for the families we help and support. Any expenses to be paid by the charity.”

Treasurer required by Guildford Environmental Forum

Guildford Environment Forum is a Surrey-based charity with a 30-year-long history.

It works to make Guildford (and the world beyond) a more sustainable place by educating, informing, cutting energy use, reducing ecological footprints, helping wildlife and tackling climate change.

It is looking for a motivated volunteer, passionate about the natural environment, to contribute towards raising the profile of its work with the aim of keeping the accounting records of the charity.

The ideal time commitment is two hours per week at whatever time suits the applicant. Specifics of the role will be negotiable, dependent on the applications received. All expenses will be covered.

Action for Carers (Surrey) hub volunteer

Action for Carers (Surrey) has a vision “to enable all unpaid carers to have a voice and access support to improve their quality of life and wellbeing.”

It is a committed, passionate charity determined to make a difference to young and adult carers across Surrey.

It offers its volunteers a friendly, supportive, flexible experience and is committed to welcoming volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds.

Of the hub volunteer role, it says: “Volunteering within your local community, you will provide help and support at one of our Carer Support Hub centres. Our fixed hubs are in Guildford, Leatherhead, Camberley, Woking and Horley. Other ‘satellite’ hubs will be running at various different locations.

“Working alongside a paid member of staff you, you will: make carers feel welcome by creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Help carers to sign in. Offer an empathetic and listening ear. Direct carers to a carer support advisor for signposting to specific support.

Drivers wanted to take people to a from social club for physically disabled adults

Guildford Club for Disabled, established over 40 years, meets on Thursday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm at Jacobs Well Village Hall, Guildford.

Volunteer drivers are needed to bring members to and from the club

No experience is necessary, just a caring, compassionate nature.

You will be collecting members only from the local area and wouldn’t be handling wheel chairs.

Reasonable petrol expenses can be claimed.

There’s always the perk of enjoying the arranged entertainment and tea and biscuits while you wait!

Cafe volunteer

The Oak Cafe is a free drop-in cafe at St Peter’s Shared Church, Bellfields, Guildford open on Tuesdays from 10am to noon.

It provides a space for people of all walks of life to come and socialise and enjoy free drinks and cakes.

The role of the volunteer involves engaging with people of all ages and building relationships based on trust and respect.

As part of an average shift you may expect to help set up furniture, prepare drinks, chat with visitors and clean up at the end of the session.

The cafe aims to have a minimum of three experienced volunteers on each shift, so you will always have leaders to support you.

Voluntary Action South West Surrey is a registered charity and limited company set up in 2008 to help support voluntary and community groups working in the boroughs of Guildford and Waverley.

It is a Council for Voluntary Service and a member of NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action).

As well as giving advice, information and support to local groups, it has its Volunteer Centre at 39 Castle Street, Guildford GU1 3UQ, recruiting volunteers for organisations working in South West Surrey.

It is part of a network of similar organisations across Surrey.
