Letter: A Good Decision by GBC on the Proposed Normandy Development

Shortlands Farm site in Normandy.

From Michael Moriarty

In response to: Council Would Have Refused Development Proposal Had It Not Gone to Appeal

Good news to hear that GBC would have denied permission to develop this site after all; annoying the matter has gone to appeal before the decision was made, but the developers used the process to push it to the timing limit despite GBC planners negotiating over it.

The site sits in a key green belt area on the border of Ash, allowing for a distinct identity between Ash, Wyke and the rest of Normandy, even if it can be classified as “grey belt”.

The services around it (roads, utilities, schooling, health) are not currently in a position to support it, and are, as things stand, on the edge as it is.

The last decade has seen numerous new developments around Ash, but only recently has Surrey County Council looked at expanding the primary school capacity, using the funds they’ve had for a while.

As for the design of the 200 home cul-de-sac, it is, quite frankly, bizarre and unworkable, so a good decision over all.
