Letter: A Lib Dem Council Is the Best Way Forward for Guildford

In response to: Will Lib Dems Rely on Tory Votes to Elect Council Leader?

The Liberal Democrats were elected as the largest party for a reason. They are the only party committed to best representing their residents on both the local and national level. The opposition from R4GV is not surprising, and if anyone can be compared to the Tories it is them, for sure.

We are all dying to know where R4GV’s money comes from. We need transparency in these matters or we might not get the “new politics” and fair representation they claim to stand for?

A Liberal Democrat council is the best way forward for Guildford and Cllr Reeves is the right person to lead it. It is what Guildford voted for and it is the best form of opposition to the Conservative dominance we have seen for years.

The council is under no overall control, so of course all parties will have to rely on support from others on some policy areas, but we should not be mistaken that a Lib Dem council is what we voted for, and they are by far the most progressive and transparent party we have.

No, it’s not a good idea.

Caroline Reeves followed much too closely the Tory’s “trajectory” and voted for the devastatingly awful Local Plan.

I still hope that R4GV, the Greens and the GGG will challenge this apparently casual take-over. Together they would have more councillors than the Lib Dems.

I beg to differ. The reason the Liberal Democrats were elected as the largest party was that support for the Conservative party collapsed.

Is everyone is dying to know where R4GV got their campaigning money from? It doesn’t cost much to print a few leaflets and banners. I’m assuming they had a whip round.

Unusually, I didn’t see a single placard for the Conservative party this year, did someone missplace the key to the storage shed?
