Letter: Adoption of the Local Plan is Important to Those Who Need Housing

From Pete Knight

In response to: Opposition Objectors Fail to Win Delay on Local  Plan

I’m sure there is nothing more important to the thousands of people needing housing [than the adoption of the Local Plan].

There are a lot of people who are completely out of touch with how desperate the housing crisis is and any more delay is simply not acceptable.

The arrogance is from those who think that they can delay the plan and also for thinking the majority support their behaviour. I for one don’t and most people I engage with are very happy with the Plan.

But this plan is not going to solve the “crisis” – cheap money, “Help to Buy”, and record builders profits are, together, the issue, not supply. Supply will never be allowed to suppress prices by developers, build out will be slowed to keep prices high.

Viability tests will be used to reduce/eliminate any truly affordable housing and Mr Knight is truly naive if he thinks anything in this plan will benefit those truly in need.

How many of the expensive houses planned for the greenbelt will be available to those “thousands of people needing housing”?
