From Tony Rooth
In response to: Anne Milton ‘Shakes off Shackles’ of Party Politics to Stand as Independent
Anne Milton’s announcement is excellent news for Guildford. Ms Milton has been a very good constituency MP. Unlike many MPs, she had a “real job” for 25 years, nursing in the NHS before going into politics.
Ms Milton has much valuable experience in government. She has taken an active interest in climate change and spoken knowledgeably at the Guildford Environmental Forum.
Both she and myself have gone “Independent” after decades’ membership of the Conservative Party which is no longer “One Nation” but taken over by hardline right-wingers.
Boris Johnson says the Tories are not interested in Guildford and they have not chosen a candidate yet.
Guildford needs an MP with experience and expertise to deal with important issues besides Brexit, such as the NHS, climate change, education and training.
Ms Milton has the necessary qualifications to deserve our votes on December 12.
Tony Rooth is the R4GV borough councillor for Pilgrims but is writing in his personal capacity.

Tony Rooth’s letter states that he is writing in a personal capacity, and as chair of R4GV I would like to clarify that R4GV will not be endorsing any of the candidates standing in the general election.
R4GV voters, supporters, officers and councillors hold a wide range of views when it comes to national politics. We respect these different opinions and choices.
Consequently we anticipate that they will support candidates right across the political spectrum in the forthcoming national election.

I fully agree with this statement. Anne Milton is an excellent MP for Guildford.
