Shalford Bowls Club

From Bill Stokoe

Are you looking for gentle, healthy outdoor exercise? Want to meet new people and widen your friendship circle?
Why not try bowling, at a local club – Shalford Village Bowling Club?
The club is actively seeking new members. On Saturday May 24 it is holding an Open Day when novices will be particularly welcome. If you are a novice, all you have to do is turn up any time between 10am and 4pm!
All the club asks is that you wear soft, flat-soled shoes. Members will be on hand to help you understand the basics of the game and to get you bowling!
“Unusually, the Club has an outdoor, all-weather playing surface,” says club chair, Anne Stokoe.
“That means you can play all year round. It is one of very few in the south of the country, and was renewed three years ago so is in very good condition. We do hope lots of people will come along and have a try. It’s fun!”
The Open Day is also a chance for members of other clubs, who play on a grass green, to try out the artificial surface. Shalford actively encourages these players to join them in the autumn each year so they can keep their eye in while their home grass surface recovers.
Shalford club players enjoy year-round home competitions and informal friendly matches. They can also sign up for league matches with other local clubs. The club is located behind Shalford Village Hall, Kings Road, Shalford, adjacent to the tennis courts. There is plenty of parking space.
