Letter: Conservatives Still Have Lessons to Learn

From John Perkins

In response to: Disappointment, Challenges, and Opportunities for Guildford’s Future

There is no evidence that voting Lib Dem in Guildford means voting for Labour in Parliament. The Lib Dem vote in 2024 was very slightly down on 2019, which shows the collapse of the Conservative vote was the reason they lost the seat.

The poll of voting intentions indicates a party still in decline. Compare the 26 per cent shown above with the 42 per cent achieved by Theresa May in 2017. It may well be that people regret their decision in 2024, but the Conservatives still have a long way to go to rebuild belief in their party.

Its refusal to accept responsibility for the drubbing received in the election indicates that the Conservative party has yet to learn anything.
