One only has to look at the GBC image attached to the article Recommendation for Guildford to Consider Congestion Charging, to realise what a complete and utter fantasy world our leaders at GBC appear to inhabit.
When will they get it through their heads that Guildford is a town not a city? It is not Woking and the two town centres have absolutely nothing in common.
Guildford is a historic town with narrow streets and buildings that are hundreds of years old. The current Woking town centre has virtually nothing in it that’s over 100 years old and grew up where it is, simply because a railway station was built there, rather than in the original Woking village, now known as “Old Woking”.

What is more of a fantasy is the picture that accompanies this letter.
To the left appears block of flats or offices with balconies. The road (Millbrook) behind the treadwheel crane has disappeared as has quite a large portion of Friary Street and Phoenix Court.
It also appears that Debenhams has been demolished and the site redeveloped. Someone seems to be living in cloud-cuckoo land or in Millmead!
Editor’s comment: Under the masterplan’s favoured traffic solution Millbrook would become pedestrianised.
