Letter: County Council Conservatives Cannot Manage the Budget

Cllr Keith Witham’s article: Car Park Charges at Newlands Corner and the Commons is the typical sort of opinion from a typical Conservative who is part of the party running the country.

Why do we have cuts in budgets while tax breaks are being given to the rich and wealthy? I’m rich and wealthy by the general standards of the country but I’m no millionaire like the ones in the cabinet over the last several years.

Why do they unnecessarily reduce the income tax for those on £150,000 salaries and then use the excuse that there is less money to go round? Why do they create multiple tax breaks for corporations and then say there’s less money available?

His argument simply does not stack up when you take in the big picture of how the Conservatives are running the country. They give to those who already have plenty and then try and justify car park charges.

I already pay for this service. In my council tax, in my income tax and through my corporation tax plus many other taxes.

The Conservatives use those inappropriately though and simply cannot manage a budget properly, which is why Surrey County Council is in the financial mess it’s in at present.

Poor move, a very poor move.
