I was walking alongside Walnut Tree Close in the semi-darkness at 06:30 this morning (February 16).  In the course of three minutes I noted four cyclists.

  • The first was cycling without any lights and without a helmet holding an umbrella;
  • The second was cycling without any lights and without a helmet;
  • The third was cycling on a pedestrian-only pavement without any lights and without a helmet;
  • The fourth was cycling responsibly.

Many have read a lot recently about the new status of and protections for cyclists.  Is it about time that cyclists were educated to show respect for fellow road users and pedestrians?  This should then be followed by enforcement.
