In response to: The Government Knows About Local Authority Funding Problems
In the “good old days”, central government would provide funding every time a new duty was laid on local councils. Not nowadays. Apart from council tax which is being capped artificially low, local councils are not able to raise money in other ways.
The present habit of persistently underfunding local authorities can only end up in one direction – bankruptcies all across the country.
Does anyone really believe that civil servants taking over will do a better job?
Do we want a totally centralised system of government?
