Hats off to Caroline Reeves for being brave enough to try this new way of running GBC.

In my experience, local politics has been all about accumulating power and exercising it through patronage. Achieving the best outcome for Guildford has been very much a secondary concern.

Perhaps by agreeing to share power without any obvious need to do so, Caroline Reeves will generate a new spirit of compromise and community engagement. This might, in turn, produce some better ideas for how Guildford can fulfil its obvious potential, and an electorate which feels that GBC is listening.

Of course, this might not happen, but the old way of doing politics in Guildford hasn’t exactly been a great success, so a change is welcome.
