Letter: I Could Not Be More Proud of These Lady ‘Scrubbers’

From Jules Cranwell

In response to: Some Ladies Are Proud To Be Scrubbers

I could not be more proud of these ladies. While many others were complaining that the government has erred by not having an endless supply of personal protection equipment or PPE (entirely consistent with the laws of supply and demand), they just took it on themselves to adopt the Dunkirk spirit and get on with finding a solution.

They did this entirely on their own initiative, with no support from local or central government.

The term “scrubbers” was intended to be tongue in cheek, as they were making scrubs.

I also believe that the term “scrubber” was historically used to describe a woman of easy virtue, rather than one who scrubs floors.
