Letter: I Saw a Ghost on Train to Guildford

From Patrick Keating

On July 7, I was on a train to Guildford and it was due in at 11.42am. I am a 71-year-old retired GP and I was on my way to my great niece and nephew’s birthday party in Guildford.

I was sitting in double seats on the left side near the door. Double seats faced me with an elderly Japanese couple occupying the window seats.

I was in an aisle seat and in front of me was a single seat with a young female, 20 to 30 years old with flowing blonde shoulder-length hair in a sleeveless floral dress. Her face was obscured by the seats in front of me. The Japanese couple got off several stops before Guildford. Opposite me was a young couple with an infant baby.

As we approached Guildford the young lady made attempts to stand up at the same time as I attempted to stand up. In the blink of an eye the young lady vanished.

I looked up and down the carriage but she was nowhere to be seen. The young couple appeared unaware of disappearance. I was reluctant to ask them if they had seen her in case they thought I was having hallucinations.

When I got home I checked your local press and a death of reported suicide happened on around December 17, 2023 on the railway tracks. There was no other reported details of the individual.

I don’t believe I had a hallucination as I have encountered two apparitions before in my life time.

Editors note: Did anyone else see the apparition? Are you aware of anything that may shed light on this mysterious occurrence on July 7, 2024 on the train to Guildford. Please leave a reply in the box below or send an email to guildford.dragon@gmail.com

What’s more likely to have been the cause, a hallucination or a ghost?

“If there’s something strange in your neighbourhood Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! If there’s something weird And it don’t look good Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”

Are there any Ghostbusters team working currently apart from the production staff at Hollywood?

Up to now Patrick Keating has experienced several apparitions so the real life ghost hunters reveal yourself.

Personally I’ve not encountered any ghostly sightings apart from Hallowe’en of course.

Why did you need to make repeated attempts to get up out of your seat?

    Unit 450101 is purportedly haunted.

The unit has had an interesting start.

It was badly damaged on delivery to the UK and consequently shipped back to the factory to be repaired, on its return to the UK it was on test and commissioning and it struck and killed a girl.

There have been reports that the ghost of a girl has appeared in the cab of the train and on board it. As retired driver I worked on it several times and never saw anything untoward.

Since ghosts obviously don’t exist, the question is why Mr Keating might be imagining a “a young female, 20 to 30 years old with flowing blonde shoulder-length hair in a sleeveless floral dress” rather than, say, an bald, overweight, 55-year-old man in an M&S suit. No comment!

David Rose summed it up in his latest article “It’s the silly season…” If you see a ghost Pat, it is all in your own mind.

If there is no proof they don’t exist! then clearly they do! I think that is the rational argument isn’t it!
