Letter: I Was Not At the Conservative Selection Meeting

Published on: 13 Sep, 2018

Cllr Nils Christiansen

From Paul Spooner

leader of Guildford Borough Council and Conservative borough councillor for Ash South & Tongham

In response to: Was Any Member of the GBC Executive at the Holy Trinity Selection?

Cllr Christiansen was a valued member of the Conservative Group at Guildford Borough Council and respected by the leadership. He is currently an EAB [Executive Advisory Board] chairman and driving the EAB change agenda.

I trust this clarifies.

I was not at the [Guildford Conservative Association] Executive meeting as I was with my parents on the South Coast but I understand there were strong candidates shortlisted by the association.

There must be something wrong with the present system if such a valued member of the Conservative Group and also be respected by the leadership can be so treated.

I hope that this is not an indication of a split in the Guildford Conservative Association.

After all, this does seem to be following a certain trend.

Blair moved the Labour Party to ‘the centre’. Cameron did the same with the Conservatives. Having banged heads in the middle, they’re now reeling back, left and right. The Liberal Democrats are dazed, in what they thought of as their spot.
