In response to: County Council’s Tory Leader Tells Whitehall of Plan for Single Authority Rule

Do we really want to perpetuate and extend the powers of an already distant and remote monolith? Surely, creating a number of unitary authorities made up of two or three boroughs each across Surrey makes more sense with some retention of local responsibility?

In any case, is now really the right time to even be contemplating an upheaval and its attendant financial implications with the current pandemic still to be dealt with?
