Jenny Jordan

From: Alison Wilcock

In response to: Former Mayor and Borough Councillor Dies

Jenny was one of my best friends for over 50 years, ever since I joined 1st Stoughton Guides where she was unit leader.

I continued there as her assistant leader after I finished as a Guide, and finally took over the reins when she “retired” from Guiding at the same time as becoming Mayor for the first time, in 2008. She then returned as a helper at 1st Stoughton up to the present day.

Having had the unenviable task of breaking the news of her death to her many friends and acquaintances, it has become very apparent how highly she was regarded. She was very giving of her time to help and guide others, and we learned so much from her. I will miss her.

So sorry to hear of the death of Jenny Jordan. I had the privilege of being for many years a colleague of Jenny at George Abbot School.

Soon after my arrival there we had a grand and memorable argument about a videotape recorder. It is an indication of Jenny’s great warmth of character that the argument metamorphosed into a strong professional and personal friendship.

I rapidly developed a great admiration for Jenny’s skills as a teacher and very much valued her friendship and support, not only in our professional teaching context, but also on a number of occasions in her Borough Council roles, which she performed with grace and dignity for a quarter of a century. A fine example of a citizen and a teacher.

I respectfully offer my sincere condolences to Jenny’s family.
