From John Morris, The Peace Party
A wreath of white poppies will be laid again this year in Quakers Acre, North Street at a simple alternative remembrance ceremony on Sunday, November 11, between 10.30am and 10.45am.
White poppies are available in Guildford at the Friends Meeting House, 3 Ward Street, and at a table at the North Street entrance to the Meeting House on Friday, November 9, between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
For many people Remembrance Sunday helps them to remember all victims of war. It is a day to remember war’s terrible cost in human life, to remember that despite a ‘war to end all wars’ human life continues to be lost in wars today.
Many people take the opportunity to reaffirm their personal commitment to strive for future peace without the use of militarism. The white poppy also symbolises a vision of that better world of peace, of compassion and human dignity.

Do you not imagine that the proper poppy, which is red, is the symbol we should all cherish?
To remember all those young men who fought so gallantly in that horrible war?
Why do you insist on yet another dividing of our society? Why can you not just accept that the poppy is red?
