From Mike Girling, chairman of the fireworks committee, Guildford Lions Club
I would like to express, on behalf of Guildford Lions Club, our gratitude for the generously of all who made the 2016 torchlight procession and fireworks display at Stoke Park a truly memorable experience for all.
The perfect weather conditions together with the large numbers that supported the evening made for a very special night.
The torchlight procession was probably the biggest yet and really did turn the roads leading to Stoke Park into a river of flame.
The atmosphere created at the display itself was incredible and we are sure everybody who came along will have taken away memories that will remain with them for a very long time.
At the time of writing we are still awaiting the final figures from the torch sales and donations made yet all the signs are that we will achieve a very healthy return for our nominated charity Headway Surrey and our own club Welfare Fund.
Bringing together the local community in such large numbers and, hopefully, generating significant funds for the needy in our community really does emphasise the Lions Club motto ‘We Serve’.
We will announce the final result as soon as possible but once again many thanks for making this such a special community occasion.
Finally, several items of lost property were found after the firework display, including glasses and keys.
These have been left with the parks and leisure services department of Guildford Borough Council at its Stoke Park Nursery, Nightingale Road, Guildford GU1 1ER. Tel: 01483 444718.
