Letter: Local Plan Means More Like ‘Foreign Fields to Diesel Lorry’

In response to: Surrey Hills ‘Field to Fork’ Royal Visit

The royal visit is great, but it highlights just how we have been let down by the present and previous councils, with so much fertile farmland being turned over to rapacious developers, as specified in the discredited Local Plan.

The loss of agricultural land at Wisley, Gosden Hill and Blackwell Farm will mean more food will need to be imported. In which case, so much for “field to fork”, it will be more like a foreign field to diesel lorry, and diesel ship, or air freight, to distribution centre, to fork.

One has to wonder how this is possible, particularly just when the government has joined the global compact to protect biodiversity and the environment it depends on.
