I happen to know two junior doctors, one working at Guildford, the other, my nephew, in Syracuse, New York.
Both have similar conditions, and they are appalling. Shifts sometimes as long as 20 hours are not sustainable.
The medical fraternity seems to believe that if this ‘rite of passage’ worked for one generation, it will work for the next.
Well, frankly, when it’s my turn to be operated on, I don’t want someone at the point of exhaustion showing up.
