Letter: A Multi-Storey Car Park at the Bottom of My Garden Will Not Make Guildford Greener

From John Lord

See: Proposal to Develop Guildford Park Road Car Park Site Approved

I attended the planning meeting at Guildford Borough Council at which the application to develop the Guildford Park Road car park was approved.

As a resident of Rupert Road, adjacent to the site, I have no problem with affordable homes being built their.

I was however staggered by the contradictory attitude of the council who, despite all their brave words about Guildford becoming greener, paved the way for this awful multi-storey car park.

This car park will significantly increase the volume of traffic in the area which will lead to a total gridlock of traffic.

In reply to Cllr Susan Parker’s, (leader of the Guildford Greenbelt Group) comment: “…personally I would rather have a garden and a house at the bottom of my garden than a public car park,” well, unfortunately, with this development a multi-storey car park is exactly what I will have at the bottom of mine.

Not such a long time ago, John Lord would’ve had a brick works at the end of his garden on that site and a railway shunting and goods yard at the end of your road. A car park and a few flats isn’t so bad compared to that.
