The Annual Prostate Cancer Screening Day at Puttenham Golf Club went ahead on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
Testing is recommended for all men over 40 years of age. Early detection of prostate cancer by getting tested means it can be treated and can lead to a 90 per cent survival rate.
This advice led to a constant stream of men arriving for their test throughout the day with 127 blood samples taken in total, a record for the Puttenham Golf Club event.
The test results showed on the traffic light colour code system that 118 came back green, five were
amber and four were red. Just goes to show how worthwhile events like these really are in helping save lives through awareness.
Steve McNeil, the Surrey Golf Union county secretary came along to show his support for this Puttenham Golf Club initiative, with an aim to encourage more Surrey golf clubs to also host such a worthwhile event.
All the tests were carried out by Cancer Testing South which is based in Woking. Many thanks to former Puttenham Men’s Captain Terry Smith who was the driving force behind getting this day arranged.
