Letter: Spectrum is a Major Contributor to the Council’s Carbon Footprint

Leader of the Guildford Greenbelt Group and borough councillor for Shalford

In response to: Council Responds to ‘Biggest Producer Of Carbon’ Spectrum and Climate Change Targets

I recently chaired the Overview & Scrutiny Committee, Executive Advisory Board (EAB) work programme meeting and raised the Spectrum review from a service delivery EAB to a joint EAB meeting to be held on January 12, subject to confirmation by relevant officers and councillors as to the suitability of the date.

It is an important key asset of the Guildford Borough Council but due to its design, age and having both an ice ring to cool and a pool to heat is a major contribution to the council’s carbon footprint.

Couldn’t they engineer a method of using the heat taken from the ice rink to heat the pool and cover the whole area with solar panels?
