Letter: Susan Parker Broke the Mould of Guildford’s Local Politics

Cllr Susan Parker

From: David Roberts

In response to: Borough Council’s GGG Leader Susan Parker in Surprise Resignation

Susan Parker has been a powerful voice for intelligent, evidence-based policy amid a sea of time-servers, back-biters and mediocrities.

How she has put up with it I can’t imagine, but she’s done a wonderful job, breaking the mould of Guildford local politics for the better.

Mouldy politics, indeed. I thank Susan for her courage, determination, and integrity. She will be much missed as GGG’s leader.

Hear, hear. Susan was has been an exemplar of how councillors should behave. Many of the other councillors could have learned much from her, had they not preferred to be so openly hostile.

And we will not forget the show trial of her erstwhile colleague, David Reeve, following complaints from Cllrs Paul Spooner and Caroline Reeves.

I wish to thank Susan Parker.

She has been a magnificent beacon of truth in the council and as leader of the GGG she will be sincerely missed by those of us she has worked so hard for over the years she has been our councillor. We will sincerely miss her if and when you stop representing your constituents in Send.

I am so sorry if we have caused the reported health issues. The true blame really belongs with those she has fought so hard against. I would ask her to let me know if I can be of any personal assistance.

I thank her on behalf of all those who elected her in Send.
