I was very sad to see so few customers attracted to the Guildford Christmas market by the Electric Theatre on Sunday (December 19).
Many stalls had attractive offerings but the market was not well advertised by whoever was responsible, a marketing company I believe. Stallholders were told that advertising was part of the pitch fee.
I would like to give a special mention to the Peace of Africa stall. Sherryl there was very helpful and I am delighted with my purchase, as is my neighbour who rushed to the stall on my recommendation.
Guildford’s market stalls are part of the town’s attraction and should be better publicised.

What Christmas Market?

I was totally unaware of the market taking place and surely a location such as the Town Bridge, or the contract car park at the end of it would be a better place, with much more footfall than an isolated island in the middle of the gyratory, that very few people know exists and even fewer people walk through.

Considering the wide expertise within the residents of Guildford effective “marketing’ appears to be the only thing lacking.
We have a great “it happened last week” marketing department but the “it’s going to happen next week” department too often fails. Those organising the events singularly fail to let anyone know – claiming Facebook or other social media (the devil’s communicator) works for them – but it does not for the community as a whole.
It’s time future events were listed locally in a central diary.
