In response to: Effingham’s St Lawrence Church Hosts Transgender Talk

I want to acknowledge the courage it took for Carmel Plumpton to speak to such a large group – some of whom admitted to “reservations” about the subject before the event.

Carmel was absolutely inspirational. Anyone who came thinking that being transgender is a life-style choice would have quickly realised that the matter is far more complex and no one would choose to face such trauma unless they had no other choice.

Traditionally “the Church” has had an uneasy relationship with the LGBT community and there is still much hurt to heal, but we hope that Carmel’s talk has been a positive step forward.
