Letter: Urban Roads Are Where Most Road Accidents Occur

From Charlie Gordon

In response to: New 20mph Speed Limits Proposed for Merrow’s Residential Roads

In 2024, the number of casualties on urban roads in England was 16 times higher than the number on motorways. Even allowing for distances travelled, urban roads see nine times more casualties than motorways.

No one wants road deaths or injuries yet they keep happening. Perhaps most sensible drivers adjust their speed near schools, but many may not and what about those less sensible?

In the last 20 years there have been 19 slight accidents reported in and around Kingfisher Drive with another three crashes resulting in five serious injuries and a further one resulting in a death.
