Letter: Use Our Shops or Lose Our Shops

Independent borough councillor for Pilgrims
Shoppers have stayed away from high streets over this last weekend which is usually a peak trading weekend before Christmas.
Freezing temperatures and the relentless popularity of Internet shopping seem the cause.
Guildford has a very attractive High Street but my own research has shown that the number of empty shops in our town centre has doubled in 2018.
There is an extra Christmas Farmers’ Market tomorrow (December 18) on Guildford High Street between 8.30 and 3.30. The BBC weather forecast is better – warmer and hopefully not wet again.
So think about visiting our town centre before Christmas. Guildford’s shops are important to our town – use them or lose them.
