Letter: We Should Not Submit to Any Form of Extremism

Published on: 13 Jun, 2020

From John Perkins

In response to: There’s No Room for Complacency Over Black Lives Matter

In response to Paul Kennedy, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner

I used to have some respect for Mr Kennedy, but his insinuation that anyone who does not explicitly support his party line must be racist is too much.

Yes, the killing of George Floyd was brutal, but it happened in a foreign country and it does not mean we all have to bend the knee to racism. Submitting to one form of extremism is as bad as advocating any other.

Where was Mr Kennedy’s outrage over the judicial murder of Zeinab Sekaanvand, or so many others around the world? The officer accused of killing Mr Floyd has been charged with murder and will be tried in his own country. We will be able to reflect on that judgement when it is handed down.

Surrey is not “the front line” and, if we are to be represented by percentage, then it is incumbent upon us to include criminals in our police force.

I’d love to hear from anyone who agrees with Xi Jinping’s overt racism.

An excellent letter Mr Perkins. It would help also if the BBC and other news organisations (eg Sky, Channel 4) stopped their slanted reporting.
