Lions Raft Race To Go Ahead As Planned Despite Time Clash With World Cup Football

Guildford Lions’ annual raft race will take place at the time advertised despite clashing with England’s quarter-final World Cup football match again Sweden on Saturday afternoon (July 7).

Eric James from the Lions said: “With the penalty shoot out win for England earlier this week against Columbia, we have been reviewing our raft race which takes place from 3pm on Saturday and obviously clashes with the quarter final match.

“After much deliberation we have decided to go ahead with the event as timed, as re-arrangements at this late stage could simply cause confusion for rafters and the public alike, some of whom travel long distances to see the race.

“We will be making efforts to provide viewing of the football match at the Waterside Centre finish point, but otherwise the race will be a football-free zone.
